Pokonji Dol Lighthouse

Croatia, Hvar, Pokonji Dol

This amazing Lighthouse is still active. Use to lighthouses are located on the land but this one is on the islet of Pokonji Dol, which is about 500-800 meters from the land. It was built in 1872 and is 28 meters tall, and still is in use. The light emits a white flash every 5 seconds and can be seen for up to 13 nautical miles. Pokonji Dol is a small islet with a surface area of just 1.67 hectares. But the same name uses also the nearest beach, and restaurant. Here you can accommodate in a very nice hotel Mustaco where the owner can supply guests with delicious food in his own restaurant. Back to the small island, is part of the Paklinski Islands, which are a group of islands located off the coast of Hvar. The Paklinski islands are popular tourist destinations, which tourists visit by small boat with a skipper 🙂 The lighthouse is made of local stone and painted white with a red roof, which makes it a perfect match for the Croatian landscape. In addition to the important function that it performs, which is to warn approaching ships against fog, it has a balcony with a beautiful landscape. I truly recommend visiting it when you come to Hvar.
