Corfu
Corfu is a beautiful island and the second largest in Greece after Crete. The island is named after the daughter of the river god Asopos. This daughter was kidnapped by the god of the seas and settled on the island, which was named after her. For many centuries the island bore this name until the 6th century AD, when the island was more often named after the Greek word for peak "Coryphee" on which a beautiful fortress was built in the island's capital. The capital also bears this name. The capital itself is also listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site. But it's worth starting your nature holiday from the western side of the island where you can make your base. Liapades is a tiny tourist village located 22 km from the capital. There are frequent buses for a few euros, or you can take a taxi, which for this distance is also not expensive (50 euros). Why Liapades? Because within a short distance we can find several wild beaches as well as commercial beaches without using any means of transportation. The closest is the beach in Liapades itself, where the adjacent hotel supplies tourists with a restaurant and sunbeds. From there you can also rent boats to explore the beaches inaccessible from land. Nearby there is also a beautiful, but already stocked only submarine canteen, Rovinia beach. As usual, the water is mesmerizing in color and the rocks rise beautifully above the beach. The beach is covered with fine gravel, which does not take water and also does not interfere with walking. From this beach there is also a path that leads to three nearby wild rocky beaches. The first one you can get to the fastest on foot is Glykos & Polyos Beach. It is a small pebble beach where you will certainly not meet too many people so privacy is guaranteed. Another one that we can reach by the same path is Klimatia Beach. Also with a pebble beach, so swimming shoes are a must have. The path leading through the wooded area is also untypical. There you can find Trypa tou Ha Cave as well as an abandoned beautiful house. But remember to take a lot of water because it is no longer possible to buy anything there. The last one from this path which is easy to reach on foot and quite spectacular is Limni Beach. Two beaches merged into one, with different water temperatures on both sides. The beaches, like the others, are also rocky without supply, but there is a private person who delivers sunbeds everyday needs. As for the beaches accessible from Liapades on the other side for those who like more challenging paths, we can take the second path leading from the beach in Liapades towards Paleokastritsa. The path is a bit off-demand and a small climb is needed, but we reached just by typical sandals so we sincerely recommend it. Just beyond it is a great place for those who can swim - "Acapulco" Bar. There is a hotel with a swimming pool and bar, and a public platform for jumping into the water. For the people who like jumping from the rocks I have to recommend the famous one "La Grotta" where is easy to get from "Acapulco". If you are wondering if you can steer a boat without a license - yes, especially in Greece. At the same place (Liapades) you can rent a small boat (5 hp) and visit the most beautiful beaches accessible only from the water. Two and the most worth seeing are definetely Stelari and Chomi Beach where you can even take a sunbed on one of them- (someone delivers them every day). Limestone rocks with turquoise water make a paradise atmosphere. Those two are to the south from Liapades but going to north are more commercial beaches such as Paleokrastritsa or Agios. Renting a car takes place in Liapades too. To see the most beautiful places in Corfu is enough to take a car for 2-3 days. We actually took the car for a day due to Covid - yes really. But I assure you, this is the most healing place for disease. Car is necessary to visit north where there are amazing cliffs - Cape Drastis and Kanali tou Erota. For dessert you can also visit Porto Timoni where there are two beaches connected with different temperatures. Those beaches are depicted on many folders describing Corfu. The capital of this gorgeous island Corfu has narrow streets and delicious restaurants. This panoramic view we can admire from Old Fortress. For aviation fans Kerkira has a viewpoint where landing planes are visible from a very nice restaurant.
